Materials

Five materials. A thousand roofs. One standard.

From timeless copper to 19th-century Canadian shingle, these are the techniques we practice and the logic behind each choice.

01
CUIVRE

Copper

The signature material for prestige cottages in the Laurentians.

Copper develops a patina over decades — from bright salmon in year one to the stable verdigris of century-old buildings. For lakefront cottages and high-end residences, it’s the investment that turns a roof into a piece of architecture.

Origin Used on Quebec churches and public buildings since the 18th century.

02
PINCETTE

Standing-seam

Double-fold standing-seam — hand-formed, panel by panel.

Our most-requested traditional technique. Panels roughly 52 cm wide are formed on site and joined by a vertical double-fold seam. The result: a weather-tight, durable roof that is immediately distinguishable from factory-panel imitations.

Origin 19th-century Québécois technique — the most-imitated by modern industry.

03
CANADIENNE

Canadian shingle

Hand-cut metal scales — the signature of ancestral homes.

The flat-scale pattern — visually close to slate shingle — was standard between 1750 and 1850 on Quebec stone homes. We install it today for heritage-building restoration and for adding ancestral character to traditional new builds. Reserved for roofs with a slope ≥ 15°.

Origin Installed between 1750 and 1850 on most Quebec stone homes.

04
ARDOISE

Slate

75-year service life — mineral nobility.

Natural slate is weather-tight, fire-proof and holds its appearance for three quarters of a century. It’s also the most demanding roofing material to install: any installation error damages it. Its rarity and cost make it the signature of heritage residences and exceptional buildings.

Origin On Quebec churches and city halls since the 19th century.

CORNICHE

Cornice & ornamental work

Weathervanes, ridge caps, decorative cornices — pure ornamental sheet-metal work.

Beyond the roof itself, we hand-form the elements that distinguish an heirloom home: castellated cornices, hammered-copper weathervanes, ridge caps, decorative dormers, sculpted downspouts. Every piece is drawn, formed and installed by our craftsmen.

Origin The most traditional aspect of the sheet-metal trade.

PRÉFABRIQUÉ

Factory metal panels

Modern standing-seam — for residential budgets.

For residential projects where the budget doesn’t allow hand-formed work, we also install modern factory systems (mill-coated metal panels, standard profiles). Careful workmanship, 10-year weather-tightness warranty — without the cachet of the hand-formed install.

Origin Modern industry — inspired by (and a simplification of) our traditional standing-seam technique.
